Fertility and Chinese Medicine

Acupuncture and herbal medicine is becoming a common remedy for fertility in both women and men. It all started when Western doctors discovered that this little acupuncture point located on your pinkie toe could effectively turn a breech baby! Not only that, but you didn’t even have to put a needle into the point to activate it, you could simply burn a little moxibustion on it and viola! (Moxa is an herb often used as adjunctive therapy with acupuncture.) But since then, we have found that there are many ways acupuncture and herbs can support not only labor and delivery, but fertility, too!

According to the American Pregnancy Association, “Acupuncture is often combined with herbal remedies to treat elevated follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), repeated pregnancy loss, unexplained infertility, luteal phase defect, hyperprolactinemia (when not caused by a prolactinoma), polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) with annovulatory cycles, and male factor including men affected with sperm-DNA-fragmentation.”

Acupuncture can also help with the overwhelm and frustration that comes from not conceiving after several attempts. There are so many ways to boost your fertility that can work instead of or as an adjunctive to Western fertility treatments. Don’t give up hope.
